By Eleanor Hamilton

November 2004
$10,000 Raffle Winner
Congratulations to Warren Alvord, Scottsdale, AZ, who won the $10,000 raffle. Warren’s name was drawn at the ARHA reception at the US Nationals in Louisville. The remaining raffle money was added to the prize monies for the US National reining classes.

Scottsdale Happenings
The ARHA will have another raffle for the Scottsdale reining classes. The $100 (or 3 for $275) tickets will be available shortly. Again, a limited number will be sold, increasing each ticket holder’s chances of winning. The drawing will be held at the reining arena right before the futurity finals, Sunday February 27th.

The Arabian/Half-Arabian Reining Classic will debut at Scottsdale 2005 with projected $80,000 in prize money. Entry deadline is December 15, 2004. Nomination fee is $1,000 and the Scottsdale entry fee is $150. There is no post entry for this class. The Classic is an approved ARHA and NRHA class show and will have 5 NRHA judges. For additional information, contact Eleanor Hamilton, 800-328-9923 , h.hamilton@microcontrol.com.

A Calcutta for the riders that will ride in the final go will be held Thursday, February 24, 2004. This will take place at the Wolf Springs Ranch at 5 p.m., just before Tom’s sale. Join in the fun and bid on your favorite rider/horse team. Get your friends and pool your money.

The champion reining classes at Scottsdale will be NRHA and ARHA sanctioned. These championship classes are purebred open and AOTR, Half-Arab open and AOTR and purebred Jr. snaffle bit. To win NRHA trophies, riders and owners must be both ARHA and NRHA members. Would you like to sponsor one of the trophies? Sponsors of these trophies will receive special recognition at the show and on the web site. Sponsors may also present their trophy to the champion reiner of each class. Contact Eleanor Hamilton for information.

The ARHA will again have a booth at Scottsdale in the same location as 2004. The NRHA trophies will be on display. Sign up to ride for the NRHA champion classes at the booth.

Payout for the AOTR reining classes at the 2004 region shows will be mailed shortly. $500 prize money is available for each AOTR class, Purebred and Half-Arab, with $250 going to each champion, $100 Reserve Champion, $50 Top 5. Riders must be a member of ARHA to win money. Unfortunately, $3,300 will not be paid out for these 2004 classes because the riders were not members. So, be sure to join for 2005.

US National payouts will be sent as soon as the official results are available from AHA. All riders and owners must be members of ARHA to receive prize money.

ARHA ballots for board members have just been mailed to all affiliate members. 6 members have been nominated for the three 2-year terms. Nominees are: Bryan Crandell, Alisa Guffey, Phyllis LaMalfa, April Sampson, Deb Witty, Audrey Zinke.

Also on the ballot are by-law changes – primarily “house keeping” changes.

Be sure to sign your ballot and give your AHA number. Ballots are due December 15, 2004, mailed to Mary Jane Brown.

Membership renewals have been sent out. If you need another copy, it is on the web site or contact Membership Chairperson, Pam Rose, 715-357-6539, phrose@chibardun.com.

The usage of the ARHA web site is increasing, with over 2500 visits in October, a new visitor record. The web site is a good place to look for a reiner or advertise one for sale. And, these ads are not limited to sale horses, could be stallions standing at stud, saddles or anything else.

The ARHA board would like to encourage your active participation in promoting the Arabian reining horse (in addition to showing your own reiner). The board and chairpersons are working hard to promote the Arabian reining horse but would really appreciate your ideas, creativeness and time you may have.
